Katamarayudu movie review

Katamarayudu movie review: Pawan Kalyan's film is funny, violent, enjoyable in parts...

Katamarayudu is the remake of Tamil blockbuster Veeram, which had Thala Ajith Kumar as the main man.

When Pawan Kalyan's Sardar Gabbar Singh turned out to be a damp squib at the box office last year, expectations for Katamarayudu rose to mammoth proportions.

One can draw several parallels between Ajith Kumar and Pawan Kalyan. Both are practical and realistic. They don't appear in the media often. Their films mostly pander to their respective fans. Both have charismatic screen presence. The only difference is that Ajith doesn't have political ambitions, at least for now. So, when Pawan decides to remake a film, who better than Thala Ajith, whose Veeram was an out-and-out money-spinner at the box office?

Pawan in Katamarayudu gives what all is expected by his fans. He does that in style or what fans wish to call 'Pawanism'.

In some ways, Katamarayudu is more palpable than Veeram. Take Pawan's introduction for instance. The director holds back and plays with the audience before he unleashes Rayudu on them. First, he just shows Rayudu's footwear, which itself receives chest-thumping reception from fans. Then, Rayudu's back is exposed with a blurry background. Now, he cuts to a raging bull, whose face fades out, and paves the way for our powerstar Katamarayudu (Pawan Kalyan). For any potboiler, the celebration is important both on and off screen. That's how a 'superstar' should be introduced. In Veeram, we had Ajith appearing blandly.

Katamarayudu is templated and is targeted for a family audience. Therefore, brother-sentiment, family-sentiment and lover-sentiment are prerequisites her, though inconsequential. As for fans, does a storyline actually matter?

Much like Veeram, the film follows the lives of Katamarayudu, his four brothers (Ajay, Siva Balaji, Kamal Kamaraju and Chaitanya Krishna) and his lawyer friend (Ali). Rayudu doesn't believe in marriage nor in women. The reason being, never mind. It's too funny to be taken seriously anyway. In fact, there's a problematic line in the film, which gets thunderous applause from fans. Rayudu says, "If we do certain things, we're called factionists. But if women do it, they're called feminists."

Sharukh Khan Said that Aamir Khan

Shah Rukh Khan Said that Aamir Khan and he have not talked work for years...

Superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan’s equation hardly ever appeared friendly in more than two decades of their career — they were cordial without being close. They were neither seen together in public nor spoke about each other beyond work. But everything appears to have changed recently.

From having dinner together with Netflix CEO and his team last week, to Shah Rukh being among the guests at Aamir’s 52nd birthday, the two actors have been spending a lot of time with each other lately, which has inevitably sparked speculation that they are teaming up for a project.

For Shah Rukh, however, there is nothing unusual about their meetings, and he stresses that they are also not any hint towards a collaboration. The Actor, in fact, says he has been “personally” meeting the Dangal star for years, but it’s only now that their get-togethers are reported by the media.

"We don’t talk work… We haven’t spoken on work for years. I think he’s just been in town and even I am here… So that’s it! And from last two-three months he has come home. So, no there is nothing work wise that we have discussed. Earlier also we used to meet personally and often. It’s just that the media has started spotting us now. In fact, it’s weird that everyone knows when we meet now,” Shah Rukh told reporters here.

The 51-year-old actor interacted with the media at the inaugural of special Bone Marrow Transplant Centre & Birthing Centre at Nanavati Super Specialty Hospital. Shah Rukh, who has had a long-standing relationship with the hospital with not only him but even his family been treated here, spoke about the importance regular check-ups in the country.

“I have had many surgeries in my life. They have never slowed me down. If you meet your doctor, and get check-up, everything remains good. I think we don’t do that. We still don’t have that culture of regular check-ups in our country. We should have it,” said the actor.

Aamir Khan said that he is not a hands-on father

Aamir Khan said that he is not a hands-on father and I’m obsessed with my own life

Superstar Aamir Khan may be Bollywood's Mr Perfectionst, a great Producer, businessman and philanthropist, but one thing he is not - is a hands-on father, admits the actor. Aamir, who turned 52 on Tuesday, opened up about his film, family, future projects and a lot more to Filmfare magazine. While he was at it, the actor also opened up about being a dad to three children- Junaid, Ira and Azad.

When asked about becoming a father to Azad, Aamir said it was a different experience as compared to his first son Junaid. Aamir said, "Yeah, it was different. The first child gets the most attention. When it's your first child, you're nervous, you're extra cautious, extra involved. When Junaid was born in 1993 I shot only for 36 days that year. For 328 days I was with him. That excitement, that nervousness wasn't there with Ira nor with Azad. Haan theekh hai ro raha hai, roney do (Yeah, okay. He is crying let him cry). With the first child it's arrey roh raha hai, kya hogaya (He is crying? What happened?)"

Aamir also admitted that he is not a "hands-on father" and gave all credit to ex-wife Reena and wife Kiran for raising the children. He said, "Also, I've to admit I'm not someone who's fully there mentally most of the time. Kiran is a hands-on mother. Reena was also a hands-on mother. I was not such a hands-on father except for Junaid during that first one year."

He added, "Hands-on is when you're sharing equal responsibilities with your partner in bringing up the child. Honestly, I'm not sharing that. I'm afraid I'm a self-obsessed person. Self-obsessed means I'm more in my work, in my own world. And I'm more excited about the things I'm doing, the world that I'm in. You can give it a fancy word but the bottom line is that I'm obsessed with my own life."

Salman Khan: Not me, Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan

Salman Khan: Not me, Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan, Bollywood’s real superstar is Sridevi.

The Indian film industry is replete with examples when actors refuse to comment on each other’s success. But there are some who break the norm and do not take the competition to the level of animosity and jealousy. One such actor who is an exception is Dabangg of Bollywood Salman Khan.

Recently, Salman Khan attracted the attention of many when he sang praises of the pan-Indian superstar, Sridevi. The Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor attended an award ceremony where the poster of Sridevi’s upcoming film Mom was unveiled. The actor was invited on the stage by anchor Maniesh Paul to introduce Sridevi. As Maneish addressed Salman as “star of the millennium”, the actor cut him in between and spoke about how Sridevi has captured the hearts of Bollywood fans and has featured in many blockbusters.

“Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay (Kumar), we have all done many films. Aamir may have done about 50 films – he has a lot of time, as he does only one film per year; Shah Rukh may have done more than 100 films. Put together, we may have all done about 250-275 films. But there is one legend who is very talented, dedicated, hardworking and professional. She completed 300 films, after starting her career as a child artiste. Our work cannot even be compared to this legend – she is none other than Sridevi!,” Salman was quoted as saying by The Asian Age.

On Tuesday, Sridevi took to Twitter to share the first look of her film, Maa. She wrote, “When a woman is challenged… Here’s presenting the first look of MOM.” In the recently released poster, there are words scribbled all around Sridevi in different languages but with only one meaning, “mother.”

At the poster release of Mom, Sridevi thanked her mother and children for all their support and love. The actor said, “If it was not for the support of my mother, I would not have been able to work in films. And I’m also happy that my children want me to do films, even now. Without them, I would not have lasted in the industry for so long.”

Aamir Khan to Spend 52nd Birthday

Aamir Khan to spend 52nd birthday with the Phogat girls, gorge over mother's Seekh kababs

Aamir Khan, who turned 52 today, interacted with the media at his residence and spoke about his recent meet with Shah Rukh Khan, nepotism, and his upcoming film Thugs of Hindostan.

Superstar Aamir Khan turns 52. And as a customary ritual, the Khan spent his birthday morning with the media, at his plush sea-facing, Carter road residence in Bandra.

"Thank you so much, my friends from the media for coming over on my birthday, my day is incomplete without you all," started Aamir Khan.

The actor was in a jovial mood when he teased the media, "I haven't got any birthday gifts yet, I hope you have brought some for me."

Fondly known as 'Mr Perfectionist', the actor is hosting a birthday bash this evening - a Dangal reunion of sorts, with the Phogat girls, Geeta and Babita flying down to Mumbai for the celebrations.

"Like every year, I will celebrate my birthday with my family and friends, my mother makes seekh kebabs for me every year. It's my all-time favorite," admits Aamir.

Having taken up a lot of social causes, from corruption to female infanticide and even honor killings and domestic violence on his issue-based chat show Satyamev Jayate, Aamir Khan is now focusing on water conservation and watershed management, across 30 talukas in Maharashtra. But does this social work, and community service encourage him to delve into politics?

"No no no politics is not for me I feel that there is a lot I can contribute staying in the creative field that I am in and as an artist, as a creative person, there is a lot I can contribute to society, to the nation, and I would like to do that from where I am. I don't want to change that," confessed Aamir.

Aamir who used to be a regular at Salman Khan's residence, Galaxy apartments has now been spotted hobnobbing with King Khan instead. The two recently met socially at PVR's head honcho, Ajay Bijli's birthday party in Dubai, and two days ago Shah Rukh Khan invited Aamir to his mansion Mannat which also saw Netflix CEO Reed Hastings in attendance. Their pictures were quick to go viral on social media, but Aamir insisted that no film collaborations are on cards.

"I've met Shah Rukh Khan twice in the the past few months, first at Bijli's party and it was so lovely to meet him, and spend time with him. Recently he invited me home, for a get-together, we met as friends. We met casually, we haven't discussed work," the 52-year-old actor said.

With the recent war of words between Aamir Khan's good friend Kangana Ranaut and filmmaker Karan Johar who she accused of being the 'flag bearer of nepotism', Aamir Khan quipped, "I feel that that's a very natural human emotion. But wait, are you asking me about nepotism in general or specifically to that issue? Let me speak about it in general: I think it's a very normal human nature to try and help people who you love and you care for, it's a very natural thing, it doesn't have to be someone who's part of your family, it can be someone who you care for so that's a very natural emotion. I try and make sure that in my work I try not to allow that to interfere because I think my duty as a creative person is to keep the audience happy, that is something I give utmost importance to, and I try not to bring emotions in my work."

Apart from Secret Superstar, Aamir Khan's upcoming production, the actor has Thugs of Hindostan, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. The film which is all set to go on floors this June, will be directed by writer-filmmaker Vijay Krishna Acharya of Dhoom 3 fame and produced by Yash Raj Films.

This is the first time Aamir will be sharing screen space with Bachchan Senior, a dream come true for the actor.

"I've been a huge fan of Amit ji all my life and this is the first time, I am getting an opportunity to work with him. I am so excited, that I will get to learn so much from the legend and that experience I will cherish forever. I am really looking forward to that this year."

Aamir Khan refused Dutt biopic because he was not interested in “playing Dutt’s father”.

At a time in Bollywood when superstars are seen romancing women half their age, Aamir Khan set the ball rolling by playing a father On-screen in films like 'Talash' and the recent blockbuster 'Dangal'. It was only a few months back when the father of three was questioned if he wouldn't mind playing on-screen dad to actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, to which he gladly said, "Yes!"

However, when the offer did, in fact, come knocking on his door, the actor reportedly shot it down.

According to media reports, director Rajkumar Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi had allegedly approached Aamir to play the role of Sanjay Dutt's father, Sunil Dutt, in the upcoming biopic, which stars Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role. If reports are to be believed, then Aamir shot the offer down as he thought the director was approaching him to play the role of Sanjay and said that he was not interested in "playing Dutt's father."

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has now been roped in, to essay the role of Sunil Dutt in the biopic opposite Manisha Koirala, who will be seen playing Sanjay's mother Nargis. Sonam Kapoor and Anushka Sharma will also be seen in sporting roles in the film.
