Meri Pyaari Bindu movie review: Khurana, Chopra go through the motions!

In one of the most crucial scenes of this Suprotim Sarkar written and Akshay Roy directed film, Meri Pyaari Bindu, the hero — an accidental horror story writer — claims penning a horror story is far more challenging than writing a love story!

He is right — even making a love story is far more demanding than weaving an entertaining narrative in any other genre, for the simple reason that the romantic liaison between a boy and a girl has been done to death. And each time, barring a few times you could count on your fingertips, Bollywood has tried making one in the recent past, it has invariably botched up miserably. Not because of nay lack of ideas, but due to unimaginative treatment!

Meri Pyaari Bindu Movie Review: Parineeti Chopra

Meri Pyaari Bindu Movie Review: Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana's film invokes the past of Hindi cinema and its music to string together a genuinely modern urban love story.

Tend to grow on people, the male protagonist preens. In a completely different context, he also admits that nobody's perfect. Both statements could apply equally to Meri Pyaari Bindu, a breezy romantic comedy from the Yash Raj Films stable that is unlike any romantic comedy ever to have come out of the Yash Raj Films stable - or, for that matter, from the Bollywood dream factory as a whole.

Far from being perfect, Meri Pyaari Bindu, written by Suprotim Sarkar and directed by debutant Akshay Roy, hums and haws its way through its initial portions without making too much immediate sense. But about 30 minutes in, the film begins to grow on you as the lead pair strike up a nice, effortless rapport with each other to the accompaniment of a lively slew of memorable Hindi films songs played on a video-cassette player that serves to bind their characters together.

Baahubali 2: Sathyaraj says sorry for Cauvery row remarks, requests for film’s release....

It seems like director SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion will release in Karnataka without any trouble after all. After pro-Kannada groups refused to settle for anything less than an apology, Actor Sathyaraj has issued a statement regretting his controversial remarks that he made almost a decade ago. “I have got to know that what I had spoken during the Cauvery water crisis has created a lot of tension among the people of Karnataka. I am not against Kannadigas or Karnataka. The biggest example for this is that for the last 30 years my assistant has been Shekar who is a Kannadiga. I would like to apologise for the statement that I had made nine years back and would like to say that I am a small worker in Baahubali film and my comment should not affect the film. I appeal to Tamils to understand,” he said in a statement, requesting the agitating groups to allow the screening of the film across the state on April 28.

Bengaluru have closed gates for Baahubali Release on April 28...

After the Cauvery water sharing issue, pro-Kannada organisations in Bengaluru have now set their eyes on the forthcoming release of Bahubali 2.

Protesting against the release of Bahubali 2 in the state, several Kannada organisations led by former MLA Vatal Nagaraj have called for a day-long bandh on April 28.The anger of Kannada organisations is against Sathyaraj (in pic) who is enacting the role of Kattappa in the movie.

Addressing media persons, Vatal Nagaraj said, “Our dissent is not against the movie Bahubali but against Sathyaraj who had made derogatory comments on Kannadigas and Karnataka leaders. We want him to apologise to the people of Karnataka and only then will we allow the screening.“

However, Bahubali 2 director SS Rajamouli has clarified that Sathyaraj had made those comments nine years ago and till now, around 30 films starring Sathyaraj have been released in the state. “Linking his old remarks that were made several years ago with the current scenario and posing an obstacle to the release of movie is not in the interest of the industry,“ Rajamouli said.

On the day of the protest, Kannada organisations will take out a protest march from Town Hall to Freedom Park.

“The entire city will be shut from dawn to dusk expressing solidarity with the cause,“ Nagaraj said.

Fate of the Furious made Rs 650 crore

Fate of the Furious made Rs 650 crore in two days and it’s still less than expected..

While it has raked in more money than a lot of film released this year, Vin Diesel’s Fate of the Furious still could not manage to make the amount that was expected of it. Is the audience missing Paul Walker?

The Fate of the Furious is roaring to a record-setting global debut over the weekend.

Final numbers have yet to be released, but based on earlier estimates, the action-thriller is poised to set a new worldwide high-water mark. It is expected to pass the previous record of $529 million set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

If that happens, a large part of the credit will to China, where The Fate of the Furious has already racked up a massive $135 million in its first two days of release. It is worth noting that Chinese theaters only give studios about 25% of ticket sales, roughly half of what they receive in most major territories.
